Perform monitoring and follow each of the processes lead by Mi Sangre has been a priority to measure the impact of support and training in our participants. Here are particular aspects of the education for peace process being held in Medellin’s vulnerable contexts in order to strengthen through art, citizenship skills in children and young participants.

Main achievements:

Accomplish the incorporation of our methodology process into the curriculum of the 3 educational institutions involved; Ricardo Uribe in commune 5, Villa Turbay School at Commune 8 and Estella Velez in Commune 13, reaching a total of 2,470 children and adolescents between the schools and 15 youth organizations.

Equally, we highlight as an achievement the responsiveness and commitment of teachers and students in the implementation of activities, creation of spaces for reflection and availability in the construction of artistic products; strategy that has allowed us to analyze the problems that bound the coexistence in the family, school and society in a playful way, making the daily difficulties an opportunity to create strategies for change. Taking this under account the socialization of topics addressed, has referred to the perception of rights and duties, participation, creativity, verbal and nonverbal communication, creative conflict resolution, managing emotions and feelings, among others that are addressed in order to strengthen skills in students and teachers to a culture of peace.

Begin to understand the concepts of tolerance and respect for difference, and implement self-regulatory mechanisms are also achievements that have been obtained from the commitment of some teachers, which has strengthened relationships and agreements that are established within each educational institution.

The project in numbers:

  • Participation skill has been strengthened in 2,241 children and adolescents from three educational institutions.
  • 126 workshops had been conducted for participants to assimilate, respect and honor the living arrangements provided for in human rights perspective that frame this process.
  • 756 activities have been developed for discussion and reflection on the applicability and enforcement of rights in different group dynamics, self-control, managing emotions and creative resolution of conflict within each group.
  • 63 activities were carried out to strengthen teachers on creative tools for managing group dynamics, based on the development of self and responsibility of the children.

Currently the art products that are made in workshops with children and young people through 6 expressive languages (dance, music, visual arts, theater, plastic arts and literature) are being socialized in the educational community. This has allowed new generations to become leading actors of social change, with tools and concrete proposals for social development.
