Dear Donor,

 GlobalGiving´s Match a Million campaign starts on Tuesday November 29th at 00:00:01 EST.

All donations will be eligible for a 50% match and GlobalGiving has an unprecedented US$ 500,000 in matching funds!

Every Dollar you donate will be matched by half a Dollar from GlobalGiving!

Don´t miss this opportunity and donate as of tomorrow Tuesday!

This year, 30% of our youths either found a job or were able to register for better education. This is great news!

Here is what 17 year old Pamela wrote us after she received her diploma on Novbember 11th:

" I am so greatful for the opportunity to participate in this Human Resources course because I learned important things that I will carry for the rest of my life. Association Danyann is a great institution for youths. The course woke up my curiosity. The classes were so dynamic and pleasant. I am sure that it will not be long till I find a job. Thank you so much!"

Please help us continue our mission. So many youths are counting on us.

With gratitude.

OUR FIRST GROUP OF STUDENTS AFTER THE MOVE
OUR FIRST GROUP OF STUDENTS AFTER THE MOVE

Three years ago we had to leave the house we were occupying because the rent was too expensive and we needed more space. We wanted to expand.

We moved to a very poor neighborhood in the east district of São Paulo. The neighborhood was unsafe, but the rent was cheap and the premises were very spacious.

We were very excited to have a place to expand. Furthermore, the neighborhood was in need of help and it was quite easy to attract youths and other needy people to our association.

So we started to expand. We added new courses, we trained more youths. Then, on top of training youths for the marketplace - which was our original goal - we merged with another association and began to take care of Down Syndrome children that needed special care. We also started preparing ourselves to provide care to the elderly and to kindergarden children. It was so exciting to see that we were growing and helping more and more people.

But trouble was right around the corner.

  • The neighborhood was really unsafe. We were burgled twice.
  • We had to spend money to replace the equipment that was stolen and to improve security;
  • Teachers were reluctant to come teach in a place that was unsafe. This is sad to say but such is reality;
  • We lost our focus and moved away from our original mission. We were still keeping more and more youths off the street, which was okay but not good enough.

Upon realizing the mistakes we had made we decided to dramatically turn around:

  • In the beginning of 2016 we moved to a smaller, safer location;
  • We moved back to our original mission and stuck to it. The only thing we now do is TRAIN YOUTHS FOR THE MARKETPLACE;
  • We downsized the whole organization and have become very efficient;
  • We hired a new team of teachers. All of them are professionals. No volunteers which sometimes are not as commited as we want them to be;
  • We have a new, very professional management team. The new Board of Directors is very motivated and very involved in the activities of the association.

This was a stressful but also very enriching experience. We are so happy that we have learned a number of things:

  • Stay focused. Don´t move away from your original project;
  • Do a thorough study on where you want to be located before moving: “Cheap can be expensive”;
  • Do not expand unless you are sure your structure is properly sized for your new activities;
  • Stay slim.

One learns a lot on the road!

And by the way, no one was left behind. The association we had merged with continued to provide help.

Of course none of this could have been possible without your support.

Thank you again so much!

SANDY

We have reached amazing results so far this year.

Our school is extremely well organized. We have a fantastic teaching team, we have implemented vacation courses and we have installed a new library with books that were donated by our followers.

Says Sandy, a 22 year old college student that had to interrupt her studies for lack of money:

“To be able to study at ADAE (Associação Danyann: Aprender e Evoluir) was a gift to me. I had to stop my college studies for lack of money but thanks to the Administration, HR and English courses I took at ADAE, all certified by SENAI, I was able to find a job and provide for my little son.

Likewise, ADAE has given new opportunities to other youths of our sub-district of Butantã. Thanks to ADAE we no longer have to travel hours in public transportation to seek tuition elsewhere. Our teachers really prepare us for the market place, not only in the contents of the courses but also teaching us discipline, organization and teamwork. ADAE also offered us vacation courses such as arts and civic education. Thank you ADAE! “

On top of our regular courses we are also providing:

-         Summer vacation courses: arts and group dynamics

-         First aid courses ministered by the local Fire Fighters

As you can see, Dear Donors, your donations are giving amazing results and we want to thank you for that.

We also want to tell you that we need to increase our funding to be able to continue our good work. Times are tough in Brazil. We are going through a severe crisis and inflation is high. Our local donors have reduced their donations to us.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO HELP US!

With kind regards,

DIPLOMAS
DIPLOMAS

Six months after we have re-organized, we may say that our results are very good!

As you all know, Brazil is going through a serious economic, political and moral crisis. Unemployment is running at high levels and more that 13 million people are jobless.

In these circumstances, our association has been a haven for a few but very committed youths.

At the end of June we delivered the DIPLOMAS to the first group that graduated in our new location and with a renewed teaching team. Needless to say how gratifying it was to see how happy all these young people were to have accomplished their course. Let´s wish them luck in their search for a job. We will keep you posted.

We believe we have built a solid foundation that will allow us to progressively expand and prepare more youths for the marketplace.

However, to do this, we need more funding. As usual, we are taking action to obtain more funds with specific fundraising initiatives, but because we are going through such a tough crisis, our fundraisers have not been as successful as in the past. Therefore, WE NEED MORE HELP FROM OUR GlobalGiving DONORS.

We also wanted to let you know that thanks to a couple of donors, we were able to build a library with 250 books already. This will be another source of entertainment and inspiration to our youths.

Thank you so much for you continued support.

It is gratifying to see that your efforts are giving such good results!
