This project trains 2000 girls selected from 5 schools in practical crops cultivation, animal husbandry and products marketing through the establishment of 5 school gardens in 5 girls schools.
In schools across Imo State classroom based agricultural teaching with no practicals is the bane of agricultural development and youth unemployment. With high unemployment rate young people especially girls will become self employed practicing agriculture at home. This project will tackle poverty by empowering 2000 young girls aged 12 -25 with valuable skills to set up micro-gardens at home, earn income, become independent and pursue careers in agriculture.
Students are selected and organized in groups. Students recieves practical crops cultivation and livestock rearing skills. Students in the 5 schools set up of school garden in each school. Students recieves training in harvesting and marketing.
The project will impart 2000 girls with lifetime agricultural, environmental management and entrepreneurship knowledge to set up micro gardens at home, earn valuable income, become independent and pursue careers in agriculture.
