Project #2214

Toilets for 3 rural schools in Southern India

by World Toilet Organization

In July and August, Scope, WTO's partner in India, started renovations for toilets in seven primary schools and conducted "Training of Trainers" programs for 50 teachers. All seven schools have freshly renovated toilets for their students - a grand total of over 1,300 students!

Upon to receiving the approval from the local ministry and school, construction of a new sustainable toilet commenced in early September for an additional school. Building will be completed by the end of September.

In addition, hygiene kits are being distributed to the students. The kits include a bar of soap, a tooth brush and other items to help them maintain better sanitation. The teachers are working with the kids on how to use the products.

All in all, we are very excited about the new and refurbished toilets! A ceremony will be held on Oct 2, in conjunction with Ghandhi's birth date.
