Keep Kids Reading through the Holiday Season!

By Reshena Johnson | Development/Operations Coordinator

Our students selecting books at our Fall Festival!
Our students selecting books at our Fall Festival!

NCFC is quiet today. So quiet in fact, that you can hear NCFC staff rapidly typing on our keyboards from anywhere in the building. Winter break has started for our students. They are at home enjoying time with their families and friends. They are also spending their time reading, thanks to the free books they've received from NCFC!

This year, NCFC has set out to support our students and their families in creating at home libraries. One of the best ways to reach our goal of ensuring grade level proficiency in reading by grade three is by providing kids with opportunities to read whenever and wherever they are. Having access to books at home that are grade and reading level appropriate fosters a love of reading in kids, which in turn makes literacy a priority in their homes.

Since October, NCFC has donated FOUR books to each child in our program, with more expected to be distributed throughout the school year! These books have helped to set the foundation for an at home library for each child. This would not be possible without the generosity of supporters like you.  On behalf of the staff at NCFC, the students and the families we serve, THANK YOU! We are grateful for the wonderful contribution you've made in support of our program. Best wishes for a happy holiday season and a joyous and prosperous new year!
