A new school year has begun, and New Community for Children is continuing our committment to ensuring our kids reach grade level proficiency in reading by 3rd grade. Over the past summer, NCFC engaged a literacy coach who individually assessed the reading levels of all our students in grades K - 2. To bolster the success of our literacy gains over the summer, NCFC will be hosting a Fall Festival featuring a book fair for our awesome kids in late October! (Shhh! It's a surprise!) Students will be able to choose books that are appropriate to their reading level, and use those books to create their very own home library! Of course every fall festival has to have fun and games too, and this one will be no exception.
At NCFC, we know that one of the simplest and most effective ways to help students read better is to create opportunities for them to read more, especially with their families. Allowing kids to create libraries at home will sow the seeds that will grow into love of reading that they can share with their families, both present and future. Those seeds will harvest a positive impact on literacy in our community for generations to come!
It is your support that continues to yield a bountiful harvest for the futures of some great kids! We are so grateful for your contributions, and thank you for being our partners and friends!
