So far, it has been a great summer at the 2011 New Community for Children Summer Program! Our students are totally immersed in academically and socially enriching activities designed to prepare them for the upcoming school year. Our students have also been on a number of field trips to support what they are learning in the classroom. Last week, our elementary students visited the Spark! Lab at the National Museum of American History. This trip allowed the students to begin utilizing and comprehending the scientific method.
Our Middle School students are spending the summer preparing for college! They are going on tours of local colleges. So far, they have visited Howard University and University of Maryland College Park, with more tours scheduled throughout the summer.
In keeping with this this summer's theme of "Get Moving, Get Going," all of our students have been hard at work in the New Community for Children garden. They are growing tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce and a variety of herbs. They have used their harvest in cooking classes designed to teach them about healthy eating habits. Some of their delicious creations are salads, veggie pizza and a pasta salad with fresh vegetables!
Thank you for your continuing support of New Community for Children!
