Happy New Year!

Thanks for supporting Tiny Toones Education Program for 2013. With your help we have raised $1,152 so far which is already enabling children from the poorest slum areas of Phnom Penh to access free education.

In the first week of 2013 our five teachers ran classes in English, Khmer, math and computers for the 242 kids who came to the center in the days following New Year. In addition, we’re directly helping 24 kids – aged from eight to fourteen – to attend primary school. Six of them had never been inside a school before. They’re now three months into the school year and we’re continuing to support them with their daily fees and are engaged with their families. We’re delighted that all of them are doing well at the start of 2013 and look forward to following their progress over the course of the year.

Vanneth's story

“I have never been to public school because my parents don’t have enough money… I come to Tiny Toones, morning and afternoon, everyday.”
Vanneth is 13 years old but has never set foot inside a school. He helps his mother at home with washing clothes and cooking because his father does not earn enough as a laborer to support him and his three siblings to get an education. But he comes to Tiny Toones. He comes to attend classes in English, Khmer (his favorite) and - of course - break-dancing.
“I feel happy at Tiny Toones because I have all this free time and I want to study.”

Learning is a two-way street

We believe there is always room for learning and improvement and Tiny Toones is delighted to welcome Belinda Delaney from Australia Volunteers International. Belinda is beginning a two year post as Education Advisor and will work with Tiny Toones to further develop our teachers and our classes to help us change children’s lives. Our aim is to provide engaging, inspiring classes that bring about, recognise and celebrate learning and we’re really excited to not only be delivering classes but also improving them in 2013.

Tell a friend

We still need to raise further funds to be able to run this project throughout 2013. Without it many of these children will not receive any education at all. Please spread the word about our campaign. Tell people they can support us on Global Giving or Global Giving UK, with either a one-off donation or a recurring monthly gift.

Thanks again for your support and a happy New Year to you all.
