By Pittsburgh Chapter EWB Team - Tingo Pucara - A Tri-State Case Study
Project design has been implemented. Our Ecuador team came back from a monitoring trip of the recently installed water system. The system is still working great and the trip went really well! Health and population surveys were completed at each house, modifications to the sedimentation/pump; tank and piping (distribution) system were made. Training materials and sessions were given operations and maintenance of the system, and the establishment of the water committee structure was reviewed.
Results have been great based on the Tingo Pucara’s community health, economic and population surveys. There is a clear indication that the health of the children in Tingo Pucara has already improved - reports reveal that they have been getting fewer upset stomachs since the system has been installed. This drastic improvement is attributed solely to the fact that the children within the community have been drinking good potable quality water from the newly installed system!
Future Needs: Some of the residents are having difficulty paying for the water, so we will be looking into altering the fee structure to see if there is a way to allow them to afford the water. Possible system service area expansion will also be explored to decrease the overall rate structure.
Please refer to the attached uploaded report for details.
