Ecuador Clean Water Supply

We are finally in the Implementation Phase of this project.  The following briefly, highlights the details of all the accomplishments to date:

Construction/Materials Update

1. Intake – Completed on 6/30/2011
2. Intake Fence Completed on 11/08/2011
3. A revised pipeline route was marked by HCJB voulunteers.  It has fewer bends and no valve boxes.  There will be 2 check valves in the pump house. The community has begun digging the pipeline route.
4. Electrical – Should be done by 12/19/2011
5. The community has accepted the HCJB proposal to supervise the remainder of construction.  HCJB work will commence on 12/19/2011
6. Next trip in January 2012
7. Need to order Pumptec Plus, on/off switch
8. Need to order relay, float, and wire for high level control(optional)

Reports

1. Operation and Maintenance Plan Due on 12/19/2011.

The construction project will be complemented by training the community on the need and importance of water health habitudes as well as water system maintenance.

Moving Forward

EWB-Pittsburgh will look into other needs of the community to complete the sustainability and public health aspects of the water supply project, such as providing the village with additional and improved latrines and with a waste management system.
