A second trip to Tingo Pucara was taken in August 2009 to implement rain catchments system was installed at the Hostel and the Community Center. Additionally, ceramic filters were introduced to the community to treat and disinfect their water. Educational information regarding sanitation and hygiene was shared with the community members.
Also, researched lots of energy alternatives: solar, wind, micro-hydro turbine, grid power, diesel motors fro pumping the water from the source to the village.
Currently, the EWB Team for this project is simultaneously working in smaller individual teams. The subset of teams is as follows: Education, energy, Pumping, Sanitation, Financing, Disinfection, Empowerment/Development and Fundraising.
Wee are in the process of pnning an implementation trip sometime late this summer. Both CMU and University of Pittsburgh students are actively designing the water collection system along with sanitary options.
Details will be posted once the Nationals EWB approves the design of the proposed project.
