Summary

Children in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam suffer from poverty and very limited local transportation. Oftentimes, they need to walk for hours every day to attend school. Studies have shown that by giving a child a bike, we can increase attendance rates, improve their grades and help them achieve a decent future.

Challenge

Poverty, very limited local transportation, and currently drought, yield limited opportunity or success in providing education to children of the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. These children's future success is threatened by this lack of such a simple resource.

Solution

Bicycles will link kids and their families to schools, health care, food and the larger Mekong Delta community, where education and opportunity for a better future exist.

Long-Term Impact

Providing 100 children their own healthy and economical transportation can link these children and their entire family a brighter future. Research shows that when kids are offered bikes, student attendance increases by up to 28%; grades increase by up to 59% and healthcare workers reach 40% more patients more often. Such a small investment can help a child for years to come.
