"Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation." --Nelson Mandela, Founding Patron of Afrika Tikkun. South Africa's multitudes of disadvantaged children lack access to basics such as having parents, food, shelter and healthcare, which means that daily life revolves around simple survival, frequently leading away from education and social promise into despair driven crime. Afrika Tikkun helps our beneficiaries to break the cycle of poverty.
Due to circumstances outside of their control, many families are living in absolute poverty in under-resourced areas of South Africa. High unemployment makes it difficult for families to meet their most basic needs causing a myriad of negative impacts due to the breakdown in family structures. Many families also do not have adequate access to resources such as education and health care. Among the challenges is the fact that youth, the future, are not provided with the necessary tools for growth.
The three core programs of our Cradle-to-Career development model include: Early Childhood Development to prepare young children for school; Child and Youth Development to help students make positive life, learning and career choices; and Youth Skills Development and Placement to provide career guidance, training and placement. Over the past 20 years, we have directly affected the lives of over 61,000 beneficiaries.
Our holistic Cradle-to-Career development model, invests in the sustenance, education and social development of our current 19,000 disadvantaged children and youth from early infancy through young adulthood and into gainful employment, thereby enabling them to become productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. "Our human compassion binds us the one to the other...to turn our common suffering into hope for the future." --Nelson Mandela
