Challenge

Having realized that the genetically modified seeds are almost taking over the good and natural seeds in the community; the women crop seed growers in the locality of Mparo Parish,Rwamucucu Sub-county,Rukiga County Kabale District in Uganda have come out to call for support so as to purchase in bulky good indigenous bean and maize seeds to grow not only to solve the problems of hunger and income but also to sustain the indigenous seeds against the coming up genetically modified ones.

Solution

The seeds will serve as source of food for the involved families as well as for income generating purposes when they sell the seeds. The extra out of this will be given to some other women thus the name Send a Seed. This way it also helps other women not to buy genetically modified seeds. The involved women also use natural organic manure they process themselves which is good for the soil and seeds as well as safe from chemicals. In this time of COVID-19 pandemic, nutritious food is essential.

Long-Term Impact

The Project will serve as continuous source of food for the involved families as well as a source of income when they sell the extra that will enable families have income to pay for other basic needs. Some amount of seeds will be passed on by each involved woman to another woman also to grow thus increasing the food and seed security and eliminating hunger and poverty in this community.
