Through our fundraising efforts,The Dougy Center is able to provide a safe place for children, teens, young adults and their family members who are grieving a death. We never charge families a fee and receive no government support, making donations especially important and greatly appreciated. The cost to sponsor a child, teen, or young adult in our peer support program is $1,500 per year. Funds raised for this project will help to cover the cost of child sponsorships, facility rentals, M&M candies, snacks, art supplies, candles for remembrance ceremonies, printer paper and more.
In addition to our 27 peer support groups,The Dougy Center offers a wide variety of workshops & training sessions on helping grieving children. Our program development trainings have directly helped start more than 160 centers nationally and internationally. The Dougy Center recently held its annual Summer Institute the week of July 23-28. Individuals came from around the country and around the world to learn how to start a peer support program from the ground up. For more information about our Summer Institute and other training opportunites call 503-775-5683 or email cheryl@dougy.org.
The Dougy Center's annual gala, dinner & auction, Reflection, was held on May 13th, 2012 at The Governor Hotel in downtown Portland. The total gross amount raised from the event and the Boxster raffle was over $460,000. We sold almost 1700 Boxter tickets! We are so grateful to all that helped make this a success! Congratulations to the 2012 Porsche Boxster Raffle winners Bruce Manyrath and Tim Manyrath with ticket number 1147.
On June 21st we marked the three anniversary of the devastating arson fire that destroyed our home of more than 22 years. As we rebuild a new home for The Dougy Center, we continue to reflect on the overwhelming support of our friends over the last three years. While we provided services without missing a group, navigated our insurance claim and came to terms as a community with both the loss and opportunity of the fire, we have been buoyed by our loyal community partners.
We are thrilled with the progress on our new home since breaking ground in April. Photos of the construction are available on our website at www.dougy.org –we encourage you to take a look! Our fundraising goal for the new building is within reach, and we trust that our community of supporters will be there for us! Everyone in The Dougy Center community has a part to play.
The Dougy Center's Upcoming Events & Trainings:

On Tuesday, November 13th, we will hold our Our Friends of The Dougy Center Annual Fall Event at The Governor Hotel in downtown Portland. We are very grateful for the support from our our corporate sponsors for this community building event, which helps to introduce The Dougy Center to new friends and supporters. This is a significant fundraiser, second to the annual gala, auction and dinner benefit.
