The Dougy Center's annual gala, dinner & auction, Reflection, was held on May 14th, 2011 at The Governor Hotel in downtown Portland. The total gross amount raised from the event and the Boxster raffle was almost $450,000. The Child Sponsorship Appeal raised $155,850! That amount of money will sponsor over 100 children, teens, young adults and their families in our program this next year -- directly impacting the lives of those who have experienced the death of a mom, dad, brother or sister.
Warren Nickerson of Beaverton, Oregon was the winner of the 2011 Porsche Boxster with raffle ticket #0884. Congratulations to Warren!
It costs $1,500 a year to sponsor a child, teen, or young adult in our peer support program. Funds raised for this project will help to cover the cost of facility rentals, M&M candies, snacks, art supplies, candles for remembrance ceremonies, printer paper and more.
Father's Day of this year will mark the two year anniversary of the arson fire that destroyed our main building in 2009. The Dougy Center held groups the very next day and never missed a group since the fire. The process of building a new site is in progress and a capital campaign to raise the money needed has begun.
The Dougy Center's annual Summer Institute is scheduled for July 25-29 this year. Individuals come from around the country and around the world to learn how to start a peer support program from the ground up. They will learn about how to raise money, how to recruit and train volunteers, how to manage the finances, and how to implement the peer support model pioneered by The Dougy Center. For more information call 503-775-5683 or email cheryl@dougy.org.
Peer support groups will come to a close for the summer in mid-July and begin again in September
