There are 450 students in 5 primary schools without school supplies and proper classrooms. We will provide: *60 desks for 1st graders that are relegated to doing school work on bare floors. * book shelves and area rug for library * art supplies and sports equipment to enhance educational experience and promote attendance. Restoring educational opportunities will enable these children to avoid child labor and child trafficking with hopes of a brighter future.
The psychological trauma borne heavily in village children was addressed when able to join friends in the classroom and enjoy some sense of normalcy. A clear and imminent danger of child trafficking exists. That victimizing of vulnerable families and children increased following the earthquake. Five Temporary Learning Centers were constructed to address this sense of need and urgency. Keeping children in school tends to keep them safe. Now refurbishment is required before school starts again.
This project will supply school textbooks, desks for classrooms, library shelves for books, sports equipment, and art supplies to enhance learning and encourage attendance. Introducing art and outdoor sports activities improve the ability of children to focus on academic programs and improve grades. Desks and chairs will be provided for 4 first grade classrooms where children are now relegated to writing on the floor. Desks will provide the smooth surface required for practicing writing skill
Educating a child benefits the entire community allowing the next generation to rise out of poverty. Parents can carry on daily activities without worry knowing that their child is safe and out of harms way during school hours. Opportunities for higher education will be possible due to improved attendance and grades. Students potential earning power will provide improved living standards for an entire family.
