We build fully-stocked Libraries in rural Kenya where none exist. But our libraries are about much more than just the books -they up-lift and connect communities. Children, parents and schools give their books and textbooks freely. Volunteers catalogue over 25'000 books and load a shipping container which when it gets to Kenya is miraculously transformed by local artisans into a bright colorful and free community library that supports over 10,000 children and parents regionally.
Only 1 in 20 children in rural Kenya has ever read a book. Unemployment is high, education expensive and literacy low. Our libraries are placed in communities with the simple goal of improving lives through education that starts with reading. Our libraries, staffed by trained local volunteers, are free and open to all and provide books to well over 10,000 children and adults. Each library costs us only US$17,000 to supply, transport and build.
Building free libraries filled with books ensures that 20 out of 20 children receive an education, literacy rates increase, poverty decreases and both children & parents have better opportunities in life. Adults also benefit from our libraries by gaining knowledge to start their own businesses. The support for our libraries has been fantastic, 25,000 books are ready to go! Over US$ 12,000 has been raised! We are just US$ 4,000 short before we can ship the container and create the library.
Every year, each library supports over 1,000 individual members, 25 school partners, 18 orphanages, hospitals and other small charities and each library provides books to over 10,000 children and their families. Our libraries have increased literacy levels, improved school performance and helped develop children's imagination and helped adults with employment. Over the next decade hundreds of thousands of lives will be transformed thanks to your donation.
