Challenge

Thousands of children in Bulgaria live in institutions without parental care. In these institutions, they don't learn basic skills such as cooking, how to clean their clothes, how to buy groceries, communication skills, etc. When they are forced to leave the orphanage at age 18, they don't have any skills or capabilities to lead a normal life, and the majority goes in to a life of prostitution, crime and drugs (and many also enter this life before leaving the institution).

Solution

Our training equips the children with the necessary skills to become fully capable of leading a secure, independent life as they enter adulthood. We target youth living in Bulgarian cities with high risk of criminal influence on the youth.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide 40 insitutionalized children with the skills necessary to integrate successfully in society at age 18, so they can find an appropriate job and develop personally and professionally on equal terms with other Bulgarian youth
