Swaziland has been devastated by HIV/AIDS, illiteracy and hunger. A full 200K of its 800K population are orphans. Life expectancy is 49 years, literacy is 87%. This project will help to provide the infrastructure to feed, clothe, educate and enrich the lives of 50 orphans who will become future leaders in this nation.
The AIDS epidemic has created a critical disaster in Swaziland. One quarter of the population is orphaned, 98% are illiterate. The nation is facing an impending vacuum of leadership. The WHO projects that by 2020 there will be no adults left in the country. New Hope Center has stepped into this void and rescued 50 orphans, placing them in a homelike environment, intentionally raising them to become Swaziland's future leaders. It is a small but important step toward rebuilding national stability.
Your contributions will provide food, shelter, education, personal hygiene items, school supplies, school uniforms, bedding, clothing, electricity, water, medical care and transportation for the 50 orphans at New Hope Center. Your funds will also add to the children's enrichment in music, dance, the arts, and sports training.
Swaziland is in urgent need of assistance and hope during this time of national tragedy. It will be today's children who become the solutions to the crisis. One of New Hope's orphans, a 17 year old girl, is being groomed to become a judge, four girls already plan to become doctors and a young man aspires to be a pilot. The children understand the importance of education and scientific thought. Each of these 50 orphans will fill a void of leadership important to the stabilization of the country.
