Hello Friends,
It is a really exciting time for our organization and the work we do in Uganda. Our work now includes partnerships with over 40 community-based organizations. In turn, these organizations provide health, HIV/AIDS, economic development and woman's empowerment services to over 10,000 rural Ugandans.
These partnerships with hard-working, dedicated community-based organizations are the key to our vision of changing the lives of impoverished rural Ugandan communities. We help build the capacity of these organizations so that they can provide desperately needed services to a wider group of people.
Today I want to share a wonderful success story of one of our partners, Agape of Hope. We started our partnership with Agape in 2013. At that time Agape had 2 staff members and an annual budget of less than $1,500. They were a hard-working group of concerned community members who were doing what they could to help young women who had dropped out of school and were at risk for exploitation.
Through our work together, Agape was able to strengthen their existing program of providing vocational training for young women who were forced to drop out of school early. They also dreamed of being able to provide programs that would keep these women from having to drop out of school in the first place.
FCDE’s Ugandan staff worked tirelessly to help make this dream a reality. Agape of Hope received technical support on grant and program development in addition to other technical skills necessary for initiating this ambitious project.
Agape of Hope, using the free computers and internet services provided by FCDE’s resource center, was able to find potential funding for their program. With our support they wrote a grant proposal that was funded for $40,000. Quite a huge step forward for the group and a giant step towards addressing the high dropout rate of young women at local high schools.
We will continue to provide support to Agape of Hope as they implement this project. We will work to ensure good fund management, good project reporting and helping to monitor and evaluate the success of the program. In this way we hope not only to get funding for organizations but to also ensure success over the long term.
This is a perfect example of the how our organization works best; ensuring that existing, local organizations survive and thrive so that they can make change happen.
We want to thank you for your support in making this work possible and would love to have your continued support.
Warm Regards,
Eric
