Hello Supporters of FCDE and Grassroots Development,
It has been a busy summer for our organization and the community development work we carry out. Your donations and support have allowed us to expand and support hundreds more beneficiaries. In this update I want to share one of our Local Partner Organization's incredible work.
Munkunyu Joint is a small Ugandan grassroots organization that formed to help raise nutrition and income in their community. The vast majority of people from this area are small subsistence farmers with less than a quarter acre for cultivation.
In addition to providing free education for their staff, consulting services for their projects and access to computers and printing resources, FCDE has made a grant to Munkunyu Joint to initiate an income generating program. These small grants are one of many ways FCDE helps pull people out of extreme poverty and give them opportunities to make a better life.
In this grant, Munkunyu Joint designed a one year project to equip 40 small holder farmers in Munkunyu Sub County with skills in agronomic practices. These included land preparation, seed selection, weeding, pests and disease control, soil and water management, post harvesting and marketing for increased beans production. The farmers were trained in a class setting and in their gardens in order for them to learn and adopt improved agronomic practices. When the skills have been adopted and applied by the target farmers, their beans production will increase hence leading to increased incomes as they sale the harvested bean. Munkunyu will also help the farmers get a better price for their excess beans by collecting and bulking the beans.
Munkunyu is an excellent example of how FCDE works with local partners to address root issues of poverty and inequality. Please look through the attached photos to get a better sense of the people, place and work being done through our programs in Western Uganda.
Thank you again for the support that has made this work possible and please consider continuing your support of our work.
Regards,
Eric
