Herd, home, rest, refuge, and individualized care for life: this is what The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee provides --with your help-- for elephants who have spent their lives on display or performing. Our 2,700-acre natural habitat accommodates the special requirements of older, sick, and/or needy elephants, and we hope to extend this sanctuary to more elephants in need.
Elephants who have spent their lives in entertainment often develop heath issues such as osteomyelitis, obesity, arthritis, early mortality, captivity-associated stress, reproductive problems and aggression. Each elephant who comes to The Elephant Sanctuary is ensured a home and care for the rest of her life -- care that not only address the elephant's physical health, but also her social, behavioral and psychological well-being. Costs for their habitat, nutrition, and healthcare are high.
This project will help The Elephant Sanctuary cover the cost of maintaining three separate habitats with heated barns, spring-fed lakes, and over 30 miles of fencing. It will also help to provide individualized care for each aging elephant at The Sanctuary. The freedom of experiencing a natural environment, along with quality health care, allows our elephants to thrive in the community of a herd. We hope to extend this sanctuary to more elephants in need.
The Elephant Sanctuary provides elephants with an expansive natural habitat, individualized care, and the opportunity to live out their lives in a safe haven dedicated to their well-being. The Elephant Sanctuary also works to raise awareness of the complex needs of elephants in captivity, and the crisis facing elephants in the wild. By supporting this project, you are helping to provide a healing haven for some of the world's most precious and endangered creatures.
