Summary

Rural communities in Nigeria have always experienced some of the impacts of climate change related weather effects, including crop and livestock loss from severe drought and flooding, infrastructure damage to levees and roads from extreme storms, shifts in planting and harvesting times in farming communities, and large-scale losses from fires and other weather-related disasters. These impacts have profound effects, often significantly affecting the health and well-being of rural residents as wel

Challenge

31st of October, 2021 was to an unimaginable surprise for the people of Erinmo-Ijesha community in Osun state, Nigeria. As the impact of a slight rainfall and thunderstorm left the entire community in a devastated conditions among which includes building and infrastructures damage/collapse, erosion and flooding with loss of properties and business facilities. This we know would leave the economy of the community in disarray as people that could bearly leave above poverty line.

Solution

With the proceed from this project, we would be able to adequately provide support across affected community and families. Those would include but not limited to: 1. Rehabilitation of affected homes, buildings and structures 2. Financial aid to for families affected to compensate and augement their loss 3. Organize informed outreach on measures to adopt to avert similar future occurrence 4. Provide agricultural tools and materials to affected farmers to continue their agricultural l process

Long-Term Impact

On the long term basis the influence from this funding would bring the economy of the community back on track which would impact the GDP of the state at large. Improve livelihood and make community habitable for investment opportunities. Increase socio-cultural integration as a good environment is a dependent factor for cohabitation and collaboration.
