Thar Desert of India is a severely impoverished region where girls are deprived of basic healthcare and educational. As a result, they grow with poor health, under illiteracy and live with social isolation and under severe poverty. The proposed project will focus on addressing the health issues of girls as they grow and to provide them educational opportunities and guidance. As an overall outcome, the girls will grow with confidence and will become capable women leaders in their future lives.
The Thar region of India has severe poverty caused by ongoing drought. Amidst all people living in Thar, girls and women are most severely impacted. They lack healthcare and educational opportunities. As a result, girls grow under poor health, with limited or no education and with social neglect. These conditions do not let girls to grown in healthy and confident women which results into their life long exploitation and suffering. Girl children in the communities need healthcare and education.
The project will work on two aspects - healthcare and education. There will be medical check ups for the girls in schools and the schools will be provided with first aid kits and water filters. On the educational side - girls will be provided with bags, educational materials and bicycles. In addition, there will be morale building activities and counselling support. All of this will lead to holistic growth of young girls which will lead them to become confident women in their later lives.
The initiative will help young girls in the project area in their holistic growth and development. Positive outcomes of the project will inspired more girls to get more education and lead healthier lives. We envisage the local community taking interest in the proposed model and the intervention is scaled up reaching out to many girls living in the Thar Desert area. Such an expansion will contribute significantly in ensuring gender equality in India.
