We are happy to inform you that EWN's training is receiving great popularity among both men and both. We have received 45 applications for the upcoming female trekking guide training. This is the biggest number of applications we have ever received to date. Ten years ago, we had difficulties finding ten participants to run the training program, and today we are receiving an overwhelming number of applications everyday. Still many women are eager to join the training. Although we would like to have all the 45 participants for the training, the board has decided to keep a total of 40 participants. It was a hard decision to turn down 5 applicants, but we cannot accommodate more than this due to space and for one to one attention reason.
This training was especially aimed to provide training for women from Western region of Nepal where poverty is extreme. There are no opportunities for girls and women to study and receive formal trainings for employment. Therefore, EWN is now assisting 19 women from 7 districts of Nepal. The basic female trekking guide training is going to start from August 19, but these women have been staying at the EWN hostel, a month before the training is actually going to start. This was decided so that it will be helpful to catch up with other higher level trainees.
In addition, we are conducting an advanced training for our experienced guides. This training includes both male and female guides. A total of two weeks course is aimed to provide advanced English, wilderness first-aid, rock climbing, and environment classes.
