In order to reinforce the income-generating activities of women, ECOOKAL organized them in solidarity mutual so that they could establish their solidarity funds as sources of financing for their activities. Unfortunately, given their very low incomes, these funds take a long time to meet at least fifty percent of the needs of mutual members. It is therefore necessary that these salutary initiatives be reinforced by external financial support to meet the needs resented in our communities
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo in general and in the territories of Fizi and Uvira in South Kivu in particular, following the shortage of jobs, many families manage to survive. Thus, women play a big role in these resourcefulness by exercising several kinds of activities generating income. Unfortunately, these activities face the great challenge of lack of financing (capital). The idea here is to reinforce these funds of solidarity by injecting other supplementary funds.
The five solidarity mutuals that are the subject of this project are operational almost three years already. Unfortunately, the monthly contributions (per woman member) are so very small and do not allow them to evolve properly because the amounts they give themselves in credit can not meet their real needs. There are even those who abdicate. The support funds we are requesting are intended to allow the mutual funds to grant substantial credits and almost all members at the same time.
Providing substantial credits to members of the solidarity fund (from $ 50 to $ 150, for example) and almost all members at once (significantly reducing wait times) will More confidence of the members in their solidarity funds, the evolution of their activities will certainly be observed and no doubt increase their income. At present, the five solidarity mutuals for which we are requesting this support each have between 18 and 22 women, so 100 women are involved in this project.
