Summary

This project will bring lasting improvement in the quality of life of 300 rural/disadvantaged girls, women and their deprived children in Nigeria through sensitization, capacity building, skill acquisition and economic empowerment thereby add value to their lives as well bring them to equality with other sex (gender equality) ,and encourage women participation in community development and reduce child marriage by tackling the root cause which is poverty/unemployment of women

Challenge

The main problem is that girls and young women in Aba la ohazu community are forced into child marriage or commercial sex work because of economic hardship/unemployment and their children end up being abused too.

Solution

This project will achieve lasting improvement in the quality of life of the rural girls, women and their deprived children especially the girl child through sensitization, capacity building, skill acquisition and economic empowerment thereby add value to their lives as well bring them to equality with other sex (gender equality) and encourage women participation in community development. Root cause of child marriage which poverty will be tackled.

Long-Term Impact

(a) The result will be that the girls/young women will be able to earn a living in a safe, sustainable way and have control over their own resources as well to negotiate safer sex. (b) The young mothers & widows among will have support to raise their children and their children will be happier, healthier, and better protected. (c) The girls/young women in Aba La Ohazu community will be armed with knowledge of their right to protection, gender equality, and the courage to initiate legal action.
