The school was started in response to a critical need for education for orphans and street children. Children are in need of food and school materials to continue with their secondary education. Also we need to build dormitory for girls, who are in risk of travelling a long distance to school. The school will serve approximately 720 students (boys and girls), in particular orphaned and street children. The school is located in Segese village, Kahama District in Shinyanga Tanzania.
Tanzania is faced with critical shortage of schools particularly secondary schools in rural areas. Estimated 2012 population of Kahama is 95,000. According to UNDP and Government of Tanzania "Status and Progress of Human Development in Tanzania 2014 Report", only one in four secondary school-age adolescents actually attend secondary school. Shammah Secondary School will definitely help to provide opportunities for local secondary school age children achieve their educational goals.
The school will serve approximately 720 students, boys and girls, especially children from resource-challenged environment (orphans and street children) who are more likely to benefit from the proximity of the school within their location. The goal is to empower Orphans, infected Children, and Children at risk;to alleviate their physical, emotional and financial hardship, enable them to improve their quality of life, live with dignity and exercise self-determination.
