Support poor rural pupils through 1000 solar lamps

by SaferRwanda

Majority of pupils in rural Rwanda use kerosene lamps and candles as light sources during their night revision.Smoke from the kerosene lamps is harmful to the pupils' health and the flickering light from the candles has an effect on their vision. This project intends to offer clean energy solar lamps to these pupils to assist them at home during night revision. In the long run ,it will boost the families' savings on money that was previously spent on kerosene fuel and are too poor to buy fuel,

Majority of the urban population in Rwanda is off-Grid.As a result they opt for candles and Kerosene lamps which emit dangerous fumes that are hazardous to peoples health especially the respiratory system. They also usually cause fires that cause destruction of property and people's live.Candles' flickering light damages the pupils' vision if overused.Additionally, the fuel consumed by the kerosene lamps is too expensive for families with meager resources.

This project will provide environmentally friendly solar lamps as a learning tool to improve the academic performance of the pupils. The pupils will have access to the solar lamps for safe, clean lighting and reading at night without having to worry about any effects on their health or where the money for buying fuel is going to come from.Every pupil deserves conducive lighting during their revision. Solar lamps will make this a reality!

Long-Term Impact

We will provide 1000 solar lamps to primary school pupils in Ruhango district. The pupils will be able to study in a conducive environment with the provision of solar lamps. This project will save the majority of families in Ruhango district of the high costs incurred in buying fuel for the kerosene lamps. We will also reduce the chances of house fires resulting from lighting kerosene lamps and candles. This will aid pupils to read better for higher grades or any resultant health hazards.
