Symphonia for South Africa's Partners for Possibility program is a transformational leadership development & support process that will equip the principals of 10 under-served and struggling schools in the rural province of Limpopo in South Africa with knowledge and skills to lead change and mobilize the communities around their schools. Partners for Possibility places schools at the center of communities and prioritizes quality education for all children by empowering school leaders.
The basic education system in South Africa is in crisis with 20,000 schools currently deemed to be failing. Research shows a direct correlation between school leadership and educational outcomes. Most school principals have not been equipped with the skills and knowledge for their critically important leadership role; yet they are the ones who are being asked to lead the most critical turnaround project of our time.
Partners for Possibility's leadership development and support initiative serves principals from under-resourced schools. The year-long program provides formal training, professional coaching and a business partner who co-designs a customized school development plan and helps mobilize communities to become actively involved in the implementation of this plan. Principals are also grouped into Leadership Circles with peers that act as solution incubators. We put schools at the center of community.
Principals are equipped to motivate and energize teachers; build and lead effective, engaged School Governing Bodies and School Management Teams; grow productive partnerships with the community, learners, parents and stakeholders; re-energize community support and involvement in schools; open doors to people in the private sector who could add value; work with peers to learn & share lessons in a collaborative community. Ten empowered principals will impact 450+ teachers and 8,000+ children.
