Casa Migrante provides support and facilitation services to Spanish-speaking migrants in Amsterdam. We help with the problems migrants face when they first arrive in The Netherlands and as they find their place in Dutch society. We help individuals and families, adults and youth, and offer a home from home drop-in service with advice and friendship for those feeling displaced, detached, homesick. We place special emphasis on support over Christmas, when feelings of isolation can be distressing.
Christmas can be tough, especially in a foreign country, experiencing new customs and traditions. Yet it is a time when tolerance and inclusion can be placed centre-stage. Getting together with own cultures and local communities, sharing a meal, music, laughter - it's all easier at Christmas and shared activities can lay the foundation for progressive steps in inclusion and integration. We help Spanish-speaking migrants with the skills, resources and contacts for an easier integration.
Helping turn isolation into inclusion, what better time than at Christmas? It can be the ideal time to create mutual understanding and cement existing and new relationships. Throughout the year we organise communal events for migrant families and individuals, neighbouring communities and supporters, all organised by our dedicated volunteers. Christmas especially is a time to come together and share food, realise common goals, and when extra focus is placed on families and homeless migrants.
Providing migrants with access to abilities, skills, knowledge and resources will enable them feel part of and welcomed in Dutch society. We combine this with sharing events, information and opportunities with local and wider-reaching communities. Our activities play a role in encouraging understanding and tolerance across different cultures. Successfully integrated migrants go on to benefit their own and wider-reaching communities, contributing to the well-being of society in general.
