Summary

We are a family-based; child focused non-for-profit organization in Uganda. We exist because we realized that in Uganda most people are young and poor. We therefore exist to tackle the great challenge of poverty through provision of accessibility to quality education to children and youth within the age bracket of 3 to 17 years. We intend to provide full education scholarships to at least 5 beneficiaries and their families every year. It will be 5 families added to our funding every year.

Challenge

Majority of Ugandans are poor people earning less than $ 1.8 daily and this therefore means many families don't have a chance to education and at worst have access to quality education. Uganda has a population of approximately 44 million people. Of that figure, approximately 20 million are under the age of 18 and this forms almost 45% of the young population. The average life expectancy is 58.7 years. In the latest Uganda National Household Survey 2016/2017, poverty is estimated 21.4 percent.

Solution

The TGKF provides education scholarships to 10 beneficiaries and we also provide scholastic materials support like school uniform, shoes, books, pens, lunch and back packers or school bags to them. The organization also provides healthcare to those 10 beneficiaries. The families of our beneficiaries are also helped to start income generating activities for self sustainability in whatever line of business they are comfortable with. We do this through a visioning process with the families.

Long-Term Impact

The project will enable accessibility to quality education to over 25 children and youth allowing them to rise out of poverty. This will be done concurrently with support to the 25 beneficiary families to originate, establish and run family income generating projects that will ultimately see the families totally move out of their current poverty levels. The supported families will be enabled to start a savings scheme through investment cohort groups and replicate this by training other families.
