The April 2015 earthquake has damaged around 10000 schools and destroyed 35000 classrooms. 2502 classrooms and 340 schools were from Dolakha district alone. The government report states that only 223 classrooms and 54 school buildings were reconstructed and 600 buildings are in ongoing process. We helped them build/renovate 6 school buildings with 22 classrooms. This project will provide 900 students in 3 schools with modern furniture in the classrooms.
Many donor agencies helped build school buildings after the major earthquake. The new buildings do not have adequate furniture in the classrooms. The kids are forced to learn on the floor. The students suffer from various health issues such as common cold, fever, headache, diarrhea, etc. Thus, they are not able to attend the class regularly which increases high risk of dropping out of school or being forced into child labor and child marriage. The children who drop out are vulnerable to crime.
We try to create a learning environment in those earthquake affected schools by proving attractive set of furniture such as: students and teacher chair, table, book rack, white board and other reading materials. We believe that child friendly furniture will help innocent small kids overcome the problems they are facing. The colorful classroom furniture sets will facilitate a learning atmosphere for 900 students and motivate them to make learner centered classroom.
The classrooms will be well furnished and students will be motivated towards learning. They will be more creative, problem solving and develop their potential. Schools lead to improved quality of education producing more confident and educated children. The drop-out rates and the health issues will be minimize and about 900 students will be benefited by this project.
