Self-sufficent Communities Develop New Opportunties
By Deborah Goldberg - Project Leader
Thanks to your donations Angus Gillis Foundation has been able to accomplish a lot towards developing income-generating projects and building self-sufficiency in the communities of the Kwandwe Game Reserve. Their recent report is chock-full of many accomplishments, including:
Facilitated training workshops for 87 women, developing knowledge, skills and confidence in basic early childhood development and care, family health, hygiene, nutrition and children’s rights as well as how to make toys and equipment for the tourism center.
Trained and mentored six locally-based Community Champions and nine Positive Health Champions who are driving the process of development in their communities and leading by example to establish new initiatives, engage with local government, lobby for services and tackle community issues.
Worked closely with self-help groups to facilitate the expansion of their economic opportunities. Groups were able to launch two broiler chicken projects in Glenmore, a goat project in Ndwayana and the beginnings of a seedling nursery in Ndlambe.
Thank you again for your generous contributions to this project! The support you provided is building self-sufficient communities and providing new opportunities for families, communities and the generations to come.
