Despite the covid19 challenges that we are currently facing raise education centre is trying to provide quality education to our vulnerable pupils .Currently the class 4 have resumed with classes as per the government directives and the school got a boost from a local corporate  Safaricom foundation  which donated  37 desks. The remote lessons are going on with more than 200 students benefiting on a weekly basis. This facilitates in enganging the students in education to avoid literacy level among them declining . 'I am very happy that my son is getting revision papers from the school every week. It is making him to be busy with class work at home and avoid idle time which could lead him to drug abuse here in Mombasa' Fatuma Mohammed(not her real name) a parent of class four pupil.

We thanks GG and individual donors for supporting us and we are still calling for additional support in ,masks, sanitizers , , computers, learning materials & operational support in offering remote lessons through revision papers , class four face to face  lessons and sustainability  to our feeding program.

Thank you and may God bless you all for your wavering support.

  • Raise education centre community based organisation fast and fore morest is  thankful to GlobalGiving for the good work done and recognising our efforts to support the community. This is especially  during this time for covid 19 pandemic. In our country Kenya the schools are still closed, but despite the closure of learning institution, our learners in raise Education centre continue to enjoy learning by coming to school to get past papers and revision test which they have been prepared by our teachers.
After marking they are given another one,we usually call their parents who have really assisted our pupils at home, to make sure they are tackling the test papers without irregularities. This has been made possible through cooperation among teachers, parents and pupils. Some of the parents who have smart phones, we have been sending them test papers and  exams through their phone in form of PDF . The parents thereafter bring the exams to the school for evaluations and marking. Any corrections is done prior  giving the  next exam  paper.
Most of our learners come from poor background ,they are vulnerable,so they can not afford smartphone, desktop or laptop which second hand they are going for 150 USD per set which they can make learning easier. Therefore the learners usually come to school  and pick the exam and past papers. There is a great challenge to our children during this covid 19 times if all of them could afford second hand desktop or laptop we could have continued with full learning throughout the day. In the future we  hope  to get the second hand desktop for learning purpose of which here they cost 150 USD for every pupil in the school. This would easen the mode of learning by smooth running of lessons without disruptions
We usually remind our learners when they come to school ,  to observe directives given by the ministry of health. These are measures which are taken to ensure they  are all safe from covid 19 infections
In our country since all the schools were closed and the children are at home, the  early pregnancy rate for young girls  has really rise up . Unfortunately majority of the girls have been impregnated  due to ildleness and lack of food ,basic needs and guidance. We have  been enganging especially the girls on  sexual reproductive health education three lessons for  three hours ,five day per week. Also engaged the parents and they come in shift and small numbers in the school  as we observe social distance ,wash hands and with masks on.   Those who cannot make it to the school compound, teachers  conduct homevisits with the awareness sessions at their homes..
On May  this year we received 317usd through GlobalGiving, we managed to pay for 12 desks and purchased 4 teachers text books and guide for new curriculum especially grade 4 art&craft, homescience, music and agriculture. We really appreciate but still we have a challenge of more desks because of social distance during this covid 19 the government through the ministry of education has already given out guide lines for reopening of schools in September. God willing the guidelines are:-each class should have maximum  of 15-20 pupils so this means we have to look for more desks before September.  We have enough space to accommodate them,we have a hall where by we can use as classes,we need like 200 extra desks in this time of covid 19 pandemic.
In Textbooks we need extra text books the second guideline is-every school must have a thermoguns for testing temperature of our children every day morning as they report to school,I understand 1 themorgun is around 60usd to 80 USD though is also a challenge coz we have more than 300 pups and there is no any income in the school due to this pandemic
Another guidelines is all pupils should be given atleast two masks due  to the poor background is a challenge to our children ,all teachers must report to school two weeks before opening for testing, some of this guide lines need money and prior before the school are open we also urge our partners globalgiving if you can assist our children in getting the requirements, thermoguns and masks. They normally depend on the school for. Most of the things..
On May we also received grant of 1000 USD from GlobalGiving,  we were able to cater  for some of our operational cost and other program related cost for the school.
Thank you once again to GlobalGiving and our supporters . We encourage you to continue supporting our project to enable us provide quality education  and stimulus packages in form of meals   to our children even in the midst of the covid 19 pandemic. Kindly hold us together, thanks
