The Trust's principal purpose is to fund the feeding program at Nyota Ing'arayo (Shining Star) school in the Kongowea district of Mombasa (Kenya) so that the school's 200+ pupils are provided with simple but nutritious meals in order to relieve hunger, promote health, encourage enrolment and attendance at school, and thus improve education levels, exam success and employment prospects.
Public schools in Kenya can be poorly resourced and located far from where the children live while most good private schools are beyond the means of poorer families.
Nyota Ing'arayo means Shining Star in Swahili and Nyota Ing'arayo school is literally a shining star in the Kongowea area of Mombasa offering a better education and a nurturing environment to poor children in the district. The school's feeding program is a vital part of it's operation, providing simple but nutritious meals, to relieve hunger, promote health, encourage enrolment and attendance at school, and thus improve education levels and exam success and employment prospects
Nyota Ing'arayo school provides stimulating and fulfilling childhood for its students, turning out decent, educated, well-adjusted young people who are a credit to their community and have life chances they would not otherwise acquire.
