The people of Nepal have been heavily affected by the spread of COVID-19, particularly those communities still recovering from earthquakes in recent years. Our long-time local partner, Relief Nepal, is working hard to address the multi-layered challenges the Global Pandemic has placed on medical professionals, law enforcement, and communities at large in the Sindhuli District. Donations to this project will directly support these ongoing COVID-19 relief efforts.
Aggressive action was taken to minimize the spread of COVID-19 via a country-wide lock-down from March 24th through July 21st. Though as a result the infection rate across Nepal has been relatively low (roughly 20,000 positive tests by the end of July 2020), the lock-down has had a detrimental effect on livelihoods - particularly for those that had pre existing vulnerabilities. Additionally, limited access to PPE has left essential and frontline workers extremely vulnerable to the virus.
Relief Nepal has already been engaged in a number of critical relief services, namely: setting up quarantine centers, distributing hygiene kits, issuing small household grants, food support and distribution, hospital transportation, and PPE provision. Their dynamic approach to the ever-changing landscape caused by the pandemic means that communities will have access to a wide spectrum of critically needed services.
As a locally operating NGO and a permanent grass roots presence already holistically serving community needs, Relief Nepal is uniquely positioned to continue making an impact through the full health crisis timeline. Funding for this project will enable them to support COVID-specific needs, which has the power to help the communities of the Sindhuli district thrive during this challenging time. 100% of the support we receive for this project will go directly to Relief Nepal.
