Make A Difference is a platform that empowers youth to become change leaders who make positive social impact in the lives of children at risk in orphanages, street shelters and poor homes. MAD works with the vision of enabling even the most vulnerable children in society to realize equitable outcomes.
40% of India's estimated 440 million children (176 million children) are in urgent need of care and protection. These are children who are the most vulnerable in our society. These are children for whom home is no longer a safe place to be. There are institutions that acts as safety nets to protect vulnerable children from abuse and to rehabilitate them to mainstream society. Unfortunately these institutions are heavily under resourced and neglected by the community.
A child in a shelter home has multiple developmental needs and is affected by multiple institutions. Unless and until all all the developmental needs are met and every institution is mobilized to support the child's growth, real rehabilitation is not possible. In MAD we are adopting a two pronged approach to ensure every child who enters a shelter home leaves it fully rehabilitated and with the necessary skills to thrive in the real world. 1. Enabling Institutions 2. Empowering the children
MAD's two-pronged approach is to develop programmes and initiatives that will help them function as normal adults in the future. By enabling institutions, MAD hopes to change the way these institutions work, and to enable them to make better decisions for the child, leading to better policy, better child-care and stronger families. By empowering children, MAD hopes to reach out to more children across India's footprint, and put an end to the vicious circle of poverty.
