Progress Report

Recent Developments

The school has recently increased their number of students from 50 to 100. They have received significant recognition in the artistic and cultural market of the city of Recife where they are located. The school is one of the few sources of pleasure and entertainment for the community and an important complement to the suffering formal school system in the area.

Awards & Prizes

In 2003, the school won the Bahai Citizenship Prize.

Estímulo ao Circo Carequinha from the Brazilian National Foundation of Art in the category of Circus Education in 2005 and 2006.

The school is recognized as a “Point of Culture” by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. The “Points of Culture” make up a horizontal network of organizations that offer mutual support in their social and cultural work. They serve as cultural agents and mediators between the State and society.

The Circus Troupe, made up of 35 young people, hás won various prizes in artistic and cultural festivals.

Success Stories

Many former students of the School have been integrated as instructors and members of the Circus Troupe.

One former student was hired from a pool of more than 400 applicants as an acrobatic instructor in the Doctors of Happiness Troupe in Recife. http://www.doutoresdaalegria.org.br/default.asp (Portuguese) This troupe visits children in hospitals to provide them with happiness and entertainment during their difficult and often lonely period of hospitalization. They also put on public performances and have recently made a film.

Five former students have moved to Italy to participate in a circus troupe there and continue to work as donor associates with the school.
