The Paro Bakebo Project: Children of the Jungle, aims to support youth providing intercultural backup and care by Shipibo-Konibo mentors. Thanks to a fund we kindly received to start the project we are already supporting 30 orphan children and hopping to increase the number of beneficiaries. That's why we are making this solidary call, asking for the support of Organizations and individuals that feel moved and committed to Indigenous childhood problematics!
The Covid-19 pandemic has not only been hardest for the Amazonian indigenous communities due to the lack of medicinal support from the Peruvian government, but also due to the raising numbers of indigenous orphans that this virus caused. These children were not able to process their grief because of this particular sanitary situation and many of them are now unprotected, uncared and vulnerable children, being exposed to psychological and economic problems.
The Paro Bakebo Project: Children of the Jungle, aims to support this youth providing intercultural backup and care by Shipibo-Konibo mentors. The program will provide proper nutrition for the beneficiary children, create a safe space for learning, cover integral health care (physical and mental) and follow up the families, parenting styles and emotional support in the household. All these services will be provided in their own language, and will be executed by shipibo mentors.
We believe that this proyect will become a permanent program that provides accompaniment, counseling and support to all indigenous children who are orphans. In the same way, we hope to create work opportunities for young indigenous professionals who want to support children. And finally, we also expect the program will be articulated with the state public policies destined to protect children and the rights of indigenous peoples.
