During the months of October 2023, our staff continued to monitor the progress our beneficiaries are making especially the youth that were supported with Agricultural Tools and skills. A total of 10 Beneficiaries were individually visited and provided extra technical support. Of those supported, 90% reported positive progress in their Agribusiness enterprises. Some of the children that were provided with Vegetable Seeds reported increase in the number of meals their households were now consuming with others saying they were now having Three Meals a day compared to just one meal a day prior to the project. Others reported ability to meet other basic needs including paying school fees from income earned out of selling the extra harvested vegetable. Majority were drying their vegetable harvest for consumption during dry season which they reported had built confidence in them as they are sure they will have food to eat during the dry season.

Those who received animals like goats and sheep had their animals give birth with some now having up to three animals within a period of 10 months from the initial one animal they received.

The key highlight during the field monitoring and mentorship support was the story of Flavia, 15 Year Old, South Sudanese Refugee Living at Boroli Refugee Settlement in Adjumani.

Flavia is the last born of the 8 children (7 girls and 1 boy).  Flavia together with her other 7 siblings are living with their single widowed mother having lost their father back in South Sudan during the 2016 war.  Due to lack of fees as their mother is illiterate and does not have any employment or source of income, Flavia had to drop out of school and did not have any hopes of going back to school. In March 2023 with funding from Go Campaign, Flavia was among the 110 youths and children who received vegetable seeds and farming tools.  To Flavia’s mother (Ms. Floraence), its an our answered prayer. The entire family put their efforts together and planted the Egg Plant and Tomato Seeds that they received In a community garden they borrowed from one of the National. With the hope they had, the mother borrowed some money to send back Flavia to school because they were sure of paying the money back from the sale of their Egg Plants and Tomatoes. During VFH Uganda team field visit to Flavia family vegetable garden the mother and sister said ‘Flavia is back to school, we are now harvesting the Egg plants, eating and selling some, so far we have earned over $90 within the first week. We have also harvested some and are drying it for future consumption’. To Ms. Florence the mother of Flavia ‘This project has enabled us to eat well, take flavia back to school and meet even other basic needs like soap which we used to struggle to get’’. We expect to earn over $1000 from our Egg plants and Tomatoes and this will enable us start another business so that Flavia does not drop out of school again says Ms. Florence.
