In Nigeria, the gap between boys and girls enrollment into school is very wide due to poor preference given to girl child education. Few girls that were enrolled did not have educational materials to boost their learning and academic performance; which results to high rate of girl dropping out of school. To reduce this, the project aimed at providing educational materials for 500 girls for a period of 1 year first. Ultimately, the project will lead to reduction in maternal and child mortality
In Nigeria, the gap between boys and girl child education is very wide compared to any African countries; due to poor preference given to girl child education. 7 out of every 10 girl child are out of school while 3 that are in school are not provided with educational material that would have enhanced their learning and academic performance. Regrettably, this leads to daily increase in the number of girl child that drop out of school. Finally this lead to increase in maternal and child mortality
Provision of educational materials will not only enhance learning and academic performance of girl child but also reduces their dropping out of school by 90 percent. At the beginning of each academic term, educational materials will be provided for the selected less privileged 500 girl child in primary and secondary school. This will run for 3 academic terms that make up one academic year. A community dialogue will be held for parents on importance of education to boost girl school enrollment
Education serves and improves quality of lives of girl child, leading to more equitable development, stronger families, better mother and child health. Other long term impact includes: reduction in child marriages, reduction in population explosion, reduction in maternal and child mortality, reduction in support for militancy, increase in number of educated girl child, reduction sexual violence against girl child, increase in women political participation and community development.
