GLH children GOING TO GLS
GLH children GOING TO GLS

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your continued support to GLS. God has given us another chance to share about the school progress.

1 kings 22:4 - Then He turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, “Will you join me in the Battle to recover ramoth gilead?” Perhaps, GLH is has a similar question re- will you join me in the Battle to have a next classroom please? We continue to praise the lord for the support made to date and our prayers is that we start on the build by December, 2017.
We have made good improvement in classroom learning exercise –Teachers have taken different professional development courses /meetings- James has used his International school teaching experience to help teachers develop the skills for better delivery to students.
Our GLH farm is doing well – We have planted maize, sweet potatoes… we do hope that enough food will be produced for the children to feed on. I am glad to report to you that our older students are fully involved in the farm to produce their own food.
We are in our last term of our school year. Our Nursery children will be graduating to primary one and as per our culture here. We are always thrilled with this wonderful experience making our children feel honored in their struggle to the next classroom level. We are always happy welcoming any visitor from outside there to officiate the function. Children will be promoted to different class levels and so children are reading hard to be promoted to the next class. If you know any visitors coming to Uganda please encourage them to visit GLS.
We are thrilled that TWAM –a Christian organization has donated Sewing machines to the Vocational College (GLV) and some carpentry training kits. GLH made an application for these machines in 2016 and God has answered our prayers now. We really thank all of you who followed up to ensure the delivery of these machines. Clearly our children vocational skills will be boosted hence better future for them.

Our Prayer request include;- Next classroom Block funder, Farm house , Volunteers, God’s protection.

Dear Friends,
Thank you for praying –Our girls are developing their vocational skills. -Miriam trained in hair dressing and recently she trimmed a visitor’s hair with her scissor. David was impressed at her skill. You may recall that Miriam came to us as a total orphan and has lived at GLH since child hood, she studied to primary level and felt she wished to develop specific skills in hair dressing and music. She is leading a church choir, whilst another girl Janet is helping with keyboard playing. They have commenced developing a choir group they have named as 2017D.
We were thrilled with our Australian visitor to GLH. We have had lovely time with him helping analyse building needs-and costs. While here, he recommended a phased building approach should we get an opportunity of raising 237Millions to begin with. He recommended that the money we have been used to complete the staff living accommodation, dig a bore hole and purchase a small farm to grow food for our daily needs. He produced the phased drawings, officiated at our girls’ graduation ceremony. Photo attached- He encouraged them not to relax in their next endeavours. He bought us the keyboard for the girls to practice on.
Prayer requests and thanksgivings:
1-Janet found a key board player teacher and could also train others.
2-Farm land purchase has happened. We are now looking forward to farming and doing poultry for income generating activities.
3-David particularly wished to thank and praise God for His wonderful favour always, for safety on the roads and very successful three weeks with GLH.

4-Classroom sponsor  to come on board as soon as possible if this is God's will.

5-GLS Football Team placed number 5 out of 16 schools that participated in the tournment.

Psalm105:19 – Until the time comes for God to fulfil His words, the word of the Lord is still testing us, like it did for Joseph when he was in the prison. His words were: Nehemiah 2:20 The God of Heaven will help us succeed. We, His servants will arise and build our school.

Blessings,
James

Grace Doing sewing

Dear Friends,

We trust that the lord has kept you well. Our second school term resumed on Monday 22/05/2017. Students have well reported for studies and the school’s daily routine are moving on well. We are currently doing online training with GlobalGiving helping us learn better way to serve our community. Well-done Supporters for the generous support!

Our older students in other schools and those within God’s Love Vocational (GLV) School continue to enjoy their life time at God’s Love House (GLH) to the Glory of God. May I share Grace’s story with you. She was miserable when she joined GLH and now is a happy girl.

GLH staff met Grace at small trading centre called Bwaise about 300 metres away from GLH. The staff had gone to have lunch there in one of the hotels where 7-year-old Grace was working as a waiter. As Grace opened a hotel cupboard, the entire top shelf collapsed and about 10 heavy glass oven dishes fell on her causing cuts, scratches and punctured skin. Instead of her employer caring for her, the boss beat her up for causing the loss. This made our staff to intervene, helping Grace get First Aid and taking the employer to the police for ‘’Child Abuse’’.

Grace explained how she came to live with the employer was after losing her parents and came looking for a job to sustain her life and perhaps go back to school.

GLH immediately took a step to help Grace by adopting her and getting her back to school.
Today, Grace is a living testimony developing her sewing skills at GLV. She can now sew shirts, skirts, trousers, renovating old skirts into shirts… She hopes to continue to live a happy life after GLV when she has fully learnt employable skills of sewing… We thank you all for being behind Grace and please continue to do so.

For just $30, you can help one girl attend vocational education and be fed each month at GLV
You could also join us at https://www.globalgiving.co.uk/donate/16818/engozi-za-mukama-gods-love-home/ In July 12 GlobalGiving has a Rewards Bonus Day and in August there is the International Youth Week Campaign for you give up one night to help fight for girls like Grace. Please help us spread the word by sharing Grace’s story with your family and friends and encourage them to take a stand for those who have no voice.
It’s their future….but it’s our fight!

Blessings,

Primary one class children
Primary one class children

Dear Friends,
We thank each one of you for your continued Support. The Board and Friends like you have helped us to achieve much ….School fees payments, feeding expenses, medical costs…
The children have been loved and cared for in God’s Love Home (GLH): 20 are in the home and 20 are with guardians. 4 years ago the diet was so poor that there were cases of kwashiorkor; improved diet has made this a thing of the past. GLS now up to P5 (possibly P6). Room size limits class size and so there is an unrealistic teacher/ pupil ratio. We dream of a purpose built school. A plot has been purchased on which to build a school when substantial finance is available. Originally GLH vision was to move the children to other institutions after P7 but how can you love and care for children then sever ties at 13 when they still need us? So we tried to continue their education afterwards. We started a branch of a vocational college offering courses in hairdressing and tailoring to 4 girls.
The needs have gone from bare subsistence to becoming almost open ended. The vision, Board and implementation are all Ugandan; from a distance you can make suggestions but the decisions stay with us (the Board). The Board is keen making GLH and GLS self-funding.
This year Mukiibi is teaching in Tanzania to raise funds for GLH. Justus, the Deputy Head, was injured during a theft of a laptop (a bullet creased his forehead; though scarred he has recovered fully). Where does faith come into this? How is God leading in this? I would suggest faith in God enables us to look fearlessly at problems: faith is deeply realistic and practical. The recent violent incident reminds us to trust daily in God; but this is no blind trust.
40 vulnerable children have been sheltered, fed, loved and educated.
Thank you... to God be the glory!
Please pray for
a. continued safety and health for all involved
b. For GLH, GLS and GLV to live up to their names.
c. For finance; in particular the funding of AIDS orphans
d. The possibility of a purpose built school.
Blessings,
James(Project Leader)

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for praying GLH is continuing to flourish but this is due to your kind support. Feeding has been maintained, children are now very happy as you can see in the pictures.
I bring to you a few highlights and some photos  attached.

ATTENDENCE

Our GLH students’ attendance to the respective schools is good including to GLS. Relationships with the schools we deal with has gone high and they can now trust us in many areas. They have been able to take our students to the study tours and demand those payments later.
No record of a Teacher absence registered since the term resumed. We have registered 100% Teacher attendance and 98% Students attendance …Glory to God and thanks for your prayers and support.

ARRIVAL

Punctuality among the students is very good. They arrive between 06:10 am to 06:15am ready for studies.

ENTERTAINMENT
Our GLH and GLS students are training music for the graduation party and they are very ready to present there songs to the guardian on the Graduation day scheduled 9/12/2016 .You are most welcome to hear what our organisation has accomplished and enjoy these songs. Justus, our Deputy Head teacher has been in full control of the entertainment programme and wide range of school activities.

ACCADEMICS

Teachers are doing their work very well and Parents have appreciated some individual Teachers for the work done .In particular Science and maths Department. Pupils can do algebra very well, speak good English and do many sports activities.

HEALTH

Irene and Patience were recently critically ill but have made a very good recovery. (If you moan about the Health Service, remember GLH because the children only have basic health care after paying for it)
Our toilets are not good and all kinds of disinfectant have been used to stop a bad smell. However, the challenge is entirely on the small distance to the classrooms place and we hope that with the initiation of new classroom block , this will be stopped. Though we may not be sure if the ministry of Health will be patient with our Dream of building a new classroom block where finances are not yet found. Rubbish collection is well done .

We have water in plenty and all the tanks have been filled with rain water apart from the one up at the upper section(GLS) with link running out collected water. We thank you you friends for helping with water needs at GLH/S. We have enough and hence low/zero costs on seasons like this. Our key One of our staffs got head hard knock , has been under treatment . He has made a good recovery.

CONDUCT

Both Children and Teachers conduct is good…Alot of  love acts!

EXAMS

We are preparing to start our exams on Wednesday 24rd/11/2016 and expect to end on Friday 7nd/12/2016 . for the teachers to start marking upto 10/12/2016. Then after , our students will go on with classes waiting for official government closing date assumed on 16/12/2016.
Lastly our end of year party is scheduled for 9th/12/2016.

ELECTRICITY CONNECTION;

We have been able to connect electricity at the new site plot for security purposes.

OTHERS;

Cooks are happily doing their work though mama Rachel has been sick for the last 4 days. She is gradually recovering.

As usual 25 pounds can educate and feed a child for a month and any help will be appreciated.
