Summary The objective of this project is to give educational support to 300 EVD affected Orphans in Sierra Leone with scholarship and learning materials in six communities within Western Area Rural District (WARD). The purpose of this project is also to contribute to addressing the challenges face by the Ebola school orphans of educational needs in the project communities in rural Freetown in the western area of Sierra Leone.
Challenge Yams Farm, Rokel, John Thorpe, Sima Town, Devil Hole and Soso Town communities are rural villages located along the out-skirt of the capital of Freetown within Western Area Rural District (WARD). These were Ebola worse hit communities in the Western Area Rural District (WARD), each with a population of over 2,500 people of which children and women are in the majority. These communities are very poor with economic activities like fishing, sand mining, gardening and petty trading.
As the problem exposes children and women to high risk of various types of diseases and poor access to quality education and support. Preach Peace Organization (PPO) social workers will work closely with the child welfare committees which is comprise of 14 community stakeholders that mend the affairs of children in every community that we work; in identifying these EBOLA( EVD) affected children in their community to be assessed and verified for service provision to the right beneficiaries.
Long-Term Impact In ensuring continuity and sustainability of the project, we will make sure that the list of beneficiaries of the project are been communicated to other Child Protection Partners and some other Government line ministries to help provide other supports and service provision and also to be doing thorough monitoring and follow up on these beneficiaries.
