The Civi Assistance Committee is a charitable human rights NGO that has been operating in Russia for over 33 years. But due to the intensification of repression against civil society in Russia, the work of the organization is under threat. This project will help pay for the rent of the premises, the salaries of employees, so that this NGO can continue what it has been doing all this time - to protect and help migrants and refugees in Russia.
The Russian government does not abandon attempts to destroy civil society in the country. The Civic Assistance Committee, human rights NGO, was placed on the so-called register of foreign agents due to foreign funding. Which led to the fact that the Department of Property in Moscow terminated the contract for free rental of premises. Several foundations that assisted the Committee have been labeled "undesirable organizations" in Russia. As a result, the Committee lost a lot of financial support.
The project will be able to support the payment for the rent of the premises, which were taken away by the authorities in Moscow. We will also be able to pay for the work of an accountant, migration consultant, lawyer and translator, whose work we can no longer support due to the fact that the funds that supported us were banned in Russia by government agencies. As a result, the Committee will be able to continue to provide legal, social and humanitarian assistance to refugees and migrants.
The organization will be able to continue its human rights and charitable work. In a rented office, the Committee will be able to help more than 7,000 refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Ethiopia and other countries. With legal, social, psychological and humanitarian support, refugees will be able to avoid illegal expulsion, receive an official document and start life in a new place for them.
