Challenge

At least 3,500 villagers are without access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Floods, natural disasters, poor sanitation and arsenic contamination of water further exacerbate inaccessibility and scarcity of safe drinking water. Also, poverty is a wide spread problem: 2,000 villagers are living on less than $2 a day. Many have to travel far only to get water from contaminated ponds.

Solution

MAAWS will install 25 tube wells to supply safe drinking water to 2,500 people without access to clean water. The access to safe drinking water also reduces the number of water borne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea especially in times of water scarcity as safe drinking water will now be available year round and provide villagers with more time devote to other opportunities.

Long-Term Impact

The projects aims to bring safe drinking water within easy access to 2,500 people. Our long-term goal is to increase the accessibility of safe drinking water to villages. Access to safe drinking water also reduces the number of water borne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea. Many in our project target are living well below the poverty line. Having safe drinking water within reach also provides villagers with more time to devote to household chores and income generating opportunities.
