We are looking ahead to summer and to welcoming thousands of kids into our Clubs for summer fun, learning and reconnection with their friends and favorite Club staff! Children everywhere have faced significant challenges to learning, socializing, building friendships and gaining new skills over the past 15 months. Boys & Girls Clubs in WA state have prepared an amazing summer worth of fun, adventure and exploration, all in safe and responsible ways to welcome our Club members to Summer 2021!.

Kids from every socio-economic group, race, creed and color have faced significant barriers to learning due to COVID-19 school interruptions. Summer time usually presents an additional learning loss challenge, with many kids experiencing a "summer slide" equivalent to 2-3 months worth of instruction. This loss compounds over time, with kids with greatest barriers to access to summer educational resources and enrichment opportunities falling 1-2 years behind their peers by high school.

Boys & Girls Clubs across WA state have prepared summer camp offerings for Summer 2021 with an eye on hands-on, experiential learning, exploration and collaboration - skills that are necessary for kids of all ages in the 21st century educational environment. Our own "Summer Brain Gain" program allows kids to participate in fun educational projects, engaging all five senses, and maximizing their school-based learning and social-emotional skills.

Long-Term Impact

Studies show that children who engage in experiential learning activities such as group work, performing arts, and collaborative exploration, maintain their educational gains from the previous school year, and return to school in September ready to engage with the new material. In the long term, his allows kids from every background to have a level playing field when it comes to post-secondary options, which translates into better earning potential, health outcomes and life expectancy.
