Summary

We sensitize, empower and assist female farmers to increase agricultural productivity and address potential environmental risks associated to tree destruction and poor unsustainable small subsistence agricultural practices. This project will assist rural farmers to engage in better fruit growing and agro-forestry practices as a strategy for natural resource management, improved food security,and sustainable livelihoods.To transform from current subsistence to economically viable agro-businesses

Challenge

Women and female-headed households form 166. Means of Livelihoods is almost nil due to subsistence level 17921357 Female of kasese district survive on less than 1 dollar a day Kasese BTC report. The ability of female households to generate income impinges on the household's level of poverty. Since 2013 1st-9th of every May Kasese experiences heavy floods destroying 112 lives, crops, property and tree species, land degradation which contributes to the destruction of Greenhouse and Global warming.

Solution

Our ultimate goal is to contribute to the eradication of poverty, improved food security and Better health of the selected 13000 female farmers while safeguarding long-term environmental sustainability by growing fruit trees/crops (including fruit and multi-purpose trees) and promoting agro-forestry systems. Its purpose is: "planting fruit trees for healthier populations and better environment". This will bring hope and a bright future for women of this impoverished project area.

Long-Term Impact

IDMC currently organized 80 farmer Groups trained in various skills of rural development.The overall impact is economic empowerment of 20000 female and improved environment.We seek to train female farmers in batter farming practices, soil and water conservation and agro-businesses. Facilitate the establishment of farmer producer-groups and foster competitive marketing of locally produced fruit products through training in value chain, harvest and post-harvest handling and quality control skills.
