You Stepped Up!

Thanks to our generous donors, Friends' Step Up for the Gorge Campaign raised over $250,000 in new funds for Gorge protection.

With the enthusiastic support of our membership, we reached our goal of raising $125,000 in new gifts for the Gorge by December 31, 2010. The gifts were matched dollar for dollar by three matching donors, bringing the total to $250,000 in new funds for Gorge protection.

To qualify for the match, the gifts had to be received between August 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010. For new members, gifts were matched 100% and for current members, any amount greater than the amount given in 2009 was matched.

Our campaign started with one matching donor challenging us to raise $50,000 in new support for the Gorge. Members responded, and we met that challenge in just three months.

In November that same matching donor offered an additional $25,000 challenge and again our members responded helping us meet that goal in a single month.

With our largest giving month, December, still to come, we found two additional matching donors who provided another $25,000 each in matching gifts. This brought the total campaign challenge to $125,000. With just four days left in December we still had nearly $30,000 to raise to meet the goal and take full advantage of the matching gift offer.

In the final days of 2010 we sent out multiple emails reminding supporters old and new that we were racing to the finish line. Despite problems with our email links and our website donation page, the last three days of 2010 were our largest online giving days in the history of the organization. Thank you to all who brought the glitches to our attention. We are working on those and will have a much smoother process in the future.

It was a steep challenge! But with help from Gorge supporters like you we made it.

What the Step Up Funds Will Do
Funds from the Step Up for the Gorge campaign will strengthen protection for the Gorge and ensure that it remains a special place that everyone can enjoy now and in the future. Every dollar helps Friends do the following:

    * Stop Inappropriate Development: Your support will help end the threat of massive casinos, destination resorts, and large expansive urban areas.
    * Preserve Valuable Lands: Your gift will help us target sensitive land for acquisition, protecting beautiful landscapes, preserving habitat, and allowing new recreational trails.
    * Diminish Gorge Air Pollution: Your support will help our advocacy efforts to shut down PGE’s coal-burning power plant, Oregon’s largest contributor to global warming and the source of 55% of the winter haze in the Gorge.

Thank You for Your Support!
